On the day it was decided that former socialist Prime Minister Pandeli Majko would move from Kukës to Tirana for the electoral campaign, DP leader Sali Berisha accused Majko of involvement in electoral crimes.
Mr. Berisha even went further when he said that "SHISH had conducted an environmental surveillance in a bar in Kukës for this."
Majo himself, through the speaker of the assembly Elisa Spiropali, sent a request to SHISH to obtain information after this claim publicly asserted in a press conference by Sali Berisha.
Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu has seen SHISH's response to the assembly, which refutes Mr. Berisha's claim.
The short response with the secret inscription that arrived at the parliament a few weeks ago states: " We have not conducted nor do we have any environmental or other forms of wiretapping of the deputy of the Albanian Parliament Pandeli Majko. The Law on SHISH clearly provides for the manner, form and obtaining of the relevant permits as to when and how a deputy of parliament is wiretapped."
This response puts an end to the Berisha-Majko clash, perhaps even returning peace to silence between them.
In an interview for Top Channel, Pandeli Majko ruled out the possibility of filing a defamation lawsuit against Mr. Berisha.
" I have a principle. I do not make accusations of such nature. I have not done it for any journalist or politician because I think that if I were to deal with this it would take a lot of time and funding. I think every citizen is very clear that I could not go to Kukës and win the elections by selling poles," Majko declared a few weeks ago.
Contacted by Top Channel for a reaction after SHISH's response, MP Pandeli Majko said that he "would respect the request of this national security body not to share any details from this document marked as secret."
Pandeli Majko neither denied nor confirmed SHISH's response./ TCH
