The Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK) summoned former Prime Minister Sali Berisha on January 23 and his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi on January 25 to question them regarding the privatization of the former Partizani complex.
SPAK had requested that Malltezi appear today for questioning, while Berisha would have to appear tomorrow, but this was opposed by the lawyers.
Yesterday, through a letter, the lawyers requested the postponement of the interrogation, a request that was accepted by SPAK.
Berisha has been kept in isolation at home since December 30, after the court ordered house arrest at the request of the special prosecution.
Sali Berisha and Jamarbër Malltez have been placed under house arrest and are being investigated by SPAK for the privatization of the former "Partizani" complex.
According to the prosecutor's office, former Prime Minister Berisha was accused of passive corruption of high state officials or local elected officials, carried out in cooperation. This case was filed by SPAK after suspicions that Berisha, when he held the office of prime minister, carried out actions by approving laws or by-laws in order that in the process of privatizing the former "Partizani" complex, the 5 well-known owner families would appear, where winners among others were Jamarbër Malltezi.
The prosecution also says that Berisha, in the capacity of the prime minister, has made available to Malltez, various structures of the state administration in order to carry out the privatization process.
All these procedures followed by Malltezi, already accused of "passive corruption" and "money laundering", according to SPAK, were carried out with the aim of privatizing the former complex, and then changing its destination for material gain, which which has led to the construction of a complex of buildings. For the construction of the latter, SPAK states that Berisha's son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi, directly benefited.
