The National Food Authority has suspended the activity of the company "SORI-AL", following suspicions of poisoning 52 students of the Safety Academy in Sauk.
According to the official announcement of the AKU, during the controls and laboratory analyses, nine food samples were taken, including raw materials and finished products. The analyses conducted at the ISUV reference laboratory showed that eight samples were within the permitted norms, while one pasta sample, a ready-made product taken in the kitchen of the Security Academy, resulted non-conforming due to the above-normal load of Escherichia coli and coagulase-positive Staphylococcus bacteria.
Due to these results, the NFA decided to suspend the entity's activity until the legal requirements for cleaning and disinfection of work premises and equipment are met.
Following the investigations and tracing of the origin of the products, the AKU also carried out inspections at the premises of the "Skënderbej" Garrison near the Armed Forces, where food was produced for the Security Academy. Following the findings of health institutions on hygiene and sanitation issues and non-conforming test results, the authority decided to suspend the company's activity at this address as well.
An administrative measure of 1.5 million lek was also imposed on the entity "SORI-AL" for trading unsafe food and violating hygiene and sanitary conditions.
The company "SORI-AL", owned by Alma Tafani, provided three-meal catering for students of the Security Academy. The company's administrator has been declared wanted by the police.
Meanwhile, chef Kujtim Ballgjini and food technologist Kristjana Plaka have been arrested in connection with this matter, while another food technologist is being investigated at large.
According to official data, by the end of 2025, the company "SORI-AL" had won 75 public tenders with a total value of 4.2 billion lek.
"The National Food Authority, in furtherance of public information and transparency, announces that in reference to the suspected poisoning of several trainees at the Safety Academy, Sauk, nine samples (raw materials and finished products) have been sampled by the AKU.
We are informed by the ISUV Reference Laboratory that eight samples tested have come within the norms and one ready-made pasta sample has resulted non-conforming for a load above the norm of Escherichia.Coli and B staphylococcus coagulase positive, this sample was sampled in the kitchen within the premises of the Security Academy, Sauk.
Due to these findings, the NFA took the measure of suspending activity until the legal requirements from the OBU for cleaning and disinfection of work environments and equipment are met.
Following the traceability process, at the address of the "Skënderbej" Garrison near the Armed Forces, where the production of these products was carried out, referring to the findings of health institutions, on the final report of the epidemiological investigation for non-conforming results for hygiene indicators, identified in the samples in storage as well as in some of the work equipment,
The AKU took measures to terminate the activity of the entity SORI-AL also at the address of the "Skënderbej" Garrison near the Armed Forces.
An administrative measure of a fine of 1,500,000 lek was also imposed for unsafe food and hygienic and sanitary conditions.
"The subject was tasked with taking measures to carry out the disposal procedure regarding the blocked product that resulted non-compliant," the AKU announcement states.
