Meanwhile, banks have notified subscribers by email that they should be careful and not fall prey to this scheme.

In recent days, several cases of fraudulent phone calls targeting bank customers in the country have been reported. These fraud attempts have been made via phone calls and emails. Meanwhile, banks have notified subscribers by email that they should be careful and not fall prey to this scheme.

The Albanian Association of Banks has announced that the calls are made through VOIP technology, which allows calls to be made over the internet. In some cases, the name or logo of a bank appears on the phone screen, creating the impression that the call is coming from the banking institution.

However, the calls are made from addresses that use suffixes such as “@gmail” or other similar platforms. Through these systems, the real identity of the person calling cannot be verified.

The callers may communicate in different languages and ask citizens for bank card details or other personal information. They often claim to be verifying or stopping suspicious transactions in customers' accounts.

The association emphasizes that banks in Albania never request bank card details, PIN codes, security codes or other confidential information over the phone.

Customers are advised not to provide any personal information in such cases and to immediately end the call. Verification of any communication should only be done by contacting the bank through official numbers.

The Banks Association also urges customers to report any suspicious cases to the relevant bank, while member banks state that they are working to raise awareness and prevent financial fraud.
