Demalia clashes with Merkoçi for the work of SPAK: When will justice be

The analyst Ilir Demaliaj and the lawyer Fatmir Merkoçi were talking about the political situation in the country, they collided with each other as there was no shortage of distance insults regarding the opinions they shared, but also their past or their philosophy on the topics.

Merkoçi expressed the opinion that the system should be changed first and then reformed, so he considered this reform of justice not proper and complete.

He assessed that the SPAK did not exceed the level of the "city prosecutor's office", as he emphasized that the SPAK should not say that it is "doing investigations with the denunciations of anonymous persons", as in the case of the mayor Erion Veliaj.

Demaliaj, on the other hand, praised the achievements of SPAK and the role of the EU and the US in the support provided, but he said that the state of connection between crime and politics is very deep and SPAK should be stronger.

Demaliaj highlighted the case of Gërdec as a precedent, where he stated that "the culprits are free" and there is no one convicted or responsible for the incident, even though years have passed, even though the names associated are former prime minister Sali Berisha and to his son, Shkëlzen Berisha.

"When will justice be done with Gërdec, or when Berisha dies and his son runs away", said Demalia, among others.

Jurist Merkoçi, on the issue of SPAK and the reform, insisted on his skepticism and opposition from the beginning of the reform.

"Senior officials, Veliaj, Kelliçi, etc., appeared in SPAK. Years ago I was the only person to oppose SPAK. One of the reasons was that there was a reform that was not based on the law, which would bring institution upon institution. One of my proposals was that no judge or prosecutor should be part of this reform, because all people were involved. The reform was needed, but not like this. The system had to be changed. They should declare the collapse of the system and then reform. This reform seeded the Constitution, institution upon institution. Problems eg. between SPAK and GJKKO for case returns. SPAK cannot pass the prosecutor's office of a city. Even when SPAK was not there, other officials were in the prosecutor's office. News is not when Veliaj goes to SPAK, but when the court receives the case. SPAK does not receive or initiate investigations from anonymous persons. If he is not good at finding the person who makes the denunciation, how will he do the investigation", he said.

While Demalia gave a different point of view, linking it to what he called a 'democratic political pluralism' or "pig soup".

"This is the system of the free market and pluralism. Has political pluralism and the free market really been applied? I say no, that we have gang politics, which came out of the communist regime, came out of it, and an economy controlled by them, or the oligarchs. We have formula, but we have practice. We have a soup of pigs, a democratic system and where Albanian politics has been criminally connected in 30 years and this is shown by the enrichment of them and their family members. How are they paid? People with state salaries, who came from the province and the village with muddy shoes from the fountain, and today they have become multimillionaires! Can a multimillionaire become a person without a business or open businesses with their family members? I say that there is abuse of power, they did not come for democracy and the state, but for democracy and to extort the state through power. The situation shows that our politicians are connected to organized crime. Justice delayed is denied. How is it possible, in the Gërdec case, no one is responsible! Neither the interior minister nor the prime minister, a village blown up and killed. Close to the airport and nobody knew it existed? The culprits are free!” the analyst said in a Skype call from the US.

And he further recalled that justice delayed is denied.

"How long will justice be delayed, when Berisha dies or when Berisha's son leaves? SPAKU, but "at least", created an earthquake in reality, but those who created politics and crime have large finances, money power. But until yesterday, it was not thought that prime ministers, deputy prime ministers and ministers would be investigated or escape. But they have stolen, abused their power. Albania, the poorest country, has no economic or infrastructural development, people flee, leave. Who created this situation? This unpunished crime in 30 years, for this he will give credit to SPAK. It was created by Europe and the USA, 500 million euros were given. If it was for the Albanians. There is no need to go around the Bay of Lalzi or the Hill of the Sun. I'm talking about visible money, not invisible money. That is why we have this class of political fiefdoms. It is not easy for SPAK to deal with these. The incinerators are an open grave and action must be taken as soon as possible, we cannot leave it like this", added Demalia.

But among them there were also debates and even individual accusations:

"Unlike you, I have no political interests. You didn't b... run away from me! Go drink coffee at Hotel Dajti (laughs). Answer how you drink coffee before the 90s of Hotel Dajti. I don't need branches, I'm a trunk. Don't play tricks on me. Where were the former security guards who drank coffee at Hotel Dajti, will we tolerate them again? The moment has come to speak openly in the media. Thanks be to one of these, that they share it together. As this "Skënderbeu" of the Albanians says in the studio who speaks for the nation (addressing Merkoç)!", Demalia addressed Merkoç.

Meanwhile, Merkoçi replied:

"These are findings, we all know. A trial has been held for Gërdec. Albanians pay for peace incinerators, pay for a road of 34 million euros, SPAK does not see these. I have national interests. Don't use that vocabulary with me, but with another person. I have stayed not because I have no chance to escape. On July 2, I entered there, not you (at the Embassies in the 90s), don't laugh... you didn't want to stay here and leave! Go on though, rant! I drink coffee everywhere. I was persecuted since 1945, but I never mentioned it".
