16 years after the Gërdec massacre, family members of the victims remember the explosion that claimed 26 lives and injured hundreds of others.
Barie Sefa came from Kukësi to Gërdec for a better life, but she never imagined that her daughter, who left 3 orphaned children, would die there.
"She entered the ground, she took me away badly. He had built a house with debt in Kavaje. I have seven people inside, the others were injured", says Barie Sefa.
Zabiti is one of the injured in the big explosion. The distance of 20 meters gave him the second chance to live.
"Around a quarter past 12, I hear a woman's voice who shouted: fire, leave! They left in the direction of that hill, that's where I got hit by the last shell, the second or third explosion that hit me, about 20 meters from the explosion. Those who were nearby almost died," said survivor Zabit Çuku.
Other family members are demanding justice, and say that if justice is not served, then they will stand up themselves.
"If the accusation of murder was not raised, we as family members have nothing at stake, there is no justice. Then we will stand up ourselves and do justice", says Zamira Durda, who lost her 7-year-old son in the explosion.
Ramazan Cami lost his brother and sister-in-law.
"My sister-in-law Bukuria, her body was no more than 50 cm. Only the dentist came who placed the teeth and identified her, she signed for the prosecutor. And the brother is inserted into and with DNA. They took my blood, the tests were done, the pieces of meat were collected and put in the coffin", said Ramazan Cami, family member of the victims.
