Fatos Nano's former bodyguard, Viktor Agolli, revealed details from the coup d'état of September 14, 1998.

That day, a coup d'état was organized in Tirana, led by Sali Berisha, after the assassination of Azem Hajdari.

Armed groups occupied the Prime Minister's Office, the Albanian Television, the Constitutional Court, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Culture for several hours, while a grenade was thrown into the office of the Speaker of the Parliament, Skënder Gjinushi. Berisha demanded the resignation of Fatos Nano, while accusing him of the murder of Azem Hajdari.

Agolli: It was a government meeting, someone guarded the house, others coordinated according to the instructions given to us by the Guard commander, some crossed the fence, some through the tunnel, the last one to leave was Edi Rama, he came out from the back where he comes to RTSH, Nano went to Dajt, then from Librazhd to Struga, there were 5-6 people, I guarded the villa with two of my colleagues. The only case where he accepted to be in command of us.
