Chris LaCivita about 1 month ago was introduced as the campaign manager of Sali Berisha's Democrats for the parliamentary elections of May 11. LaCivita was introduced as a strategist who led Donald Trump to victory in the USA and will do the same with the opposition in Albania.
But from the moment of its introduction until today, LaCivita has remained in the shadows, while Berisha considered him a marshal with whom he communicates every day.
Recently, American media reported that Chris LaCivita has filed a defamation lawsuit against The Daily Beast, claiming that the newspaper published "deliberate" and "damaging" reporting about him during the 2024 campaign "with reckless disregard for the truth."
LaCivita's lawsuit centers on an October 2024 article by investigative reporter Michael Isikoff that initially claimed that LaCivita had earned $22 million from the Trump campaign.
LaCivita, who co-managed Trump's campaign, has aggressively denied the allegations.
After the story was published, LaCivita and his lawyers sent three letters demanding that the media retract its reporting. His team showed them public campaign finance reports documenting the spending.
The Daily Beast edited Isikoff's story to say that LaCivita had earned $19.2 million from the campaign. The publication also removed a podcast it had posted that featured Isikoff talking about his reporting.
The media outlet has rejected additional requests from LaCivita and his lawyers to make further changes or retractions.
"Defendant's false statements created the false impression that Mr. LaCivita was charging high fees for his services and was personally enriching himself at the expense of the campaign, thereby damaging his reputation as an honest, reasonable and ethical political operative," the lawsuit states.
“As a direct and proximate result of the publication of the defamatory statements, Mr. LaCivita has suffered specific damages, including damage to his reputation and loss of business income,” the lawsuit states.
Meanwhile, the Daily Beast in its response considers the lawsuit baseless and an attempt to silence the independent press.
LaCivita is represented by celebrity attorney Mark Geragos, known for defending high-profile figures such as Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder and Chris Brown.
LaCivita is not seeking a specific amount of damages, but rather an amount to be determined in court. /Pamphlet/
