Amidst calls against the government and the political establishment, the 12th day of protests brought painful stories of immigration, poverty and sacrifice. Citizens spoke of separated families, mothers expecting children from immigration, and a state that, they said, has abandoned them.

Among the thousands of protesters gathered in front of the Prime Minister's Office, it wasn't just the anti-government banners that drew attention. Some of the most moving moments of the protest came from the personal stories of citizens, who revealed the scars that emigration, poverty, and lack of hope have left on Albanian families.

One of the most commented-on banners during the rally was held by an elderly woman. Her message was short but poignant.

" Immigration took my family, it's taking my grandchildren too. Come back, your mother is waiting for you ," the banner read.

The message was also mentioned by speakers at the protest, as a symbol of the drama that thousands of Albanian families have been experiencing for years, where children and grandchildren leave for foreign countries, while parents and grandparents are left behind waiting.

Another powerful moment came from a young girl, who recounted her personal and family history, connecting it to the reality that, according to her, is forcing Albanians to leave the country.

" I grew up orphaned, without a father. My mother raised me. Politicians don't know what it means to sleep on an empty stomach. You have stolen our dreams, our lives, our parents. This people deserves to live with dignity in their own land. They deserve to be represented by honest men and women ," she said to applause from protesters.

She then addressed the political class directly, accusing the country's leaders of forcing entire generations to leave.

" We are here for every mother who died with her eyes on the door. I swear before God that there is no more silence and kneeling. Albania and the future are ours. We had enough of poverty, you will have enough of justice ," declared the protester.

But one of the most shocking testimonies came from another woman, who recounted her family's ordeal in trying to save her father's life.

She confessed that for 17 years, almost all of her and her brother's income has been spent on medical treatments, while her father has undergone dozens of surgeries and lost both legs.

" I have been working for 17 years and all our expenses, mine and my brother's, have gone to hospital bills. My father has had over 26 surgeries. As we speak, he has lost both legs. The state has only accepted one of his surgeries and for all the others they say we cannot do them, we do not have the means ," she said.

According to the protester, the family was forced to send her father for treatment to Turkey, but the intervention ended with serious complications.

" The last one was that we had to go to Turkey. They made a mistake and he suffered a thrombosis on the plane. After we returned here, even our justice system wouldn't allow me to file a complaint about the hospital in Turkey, because the hospital in Turkey is connected to Erdogan ," she stated.

At the end of her speech, the protester called on citizens not to remain indifferent.

" I wanted to talk about this story, to say that we must rise up, despite the fact that we are a generation that today has nothing on the line ," she said.

In a protest that has been challenging not only the government but the entire Albanian political class for 12 days, the personal stories of citizens are increasingly becoming symbols of a dissatisfaction accumulated over years. Beyond the banners and political slogans, stories are being heard in the square about families separated by immigration, about diseases that have destroyed people's lives, and about a generation that says it has nothing left to lose.
