Security expert and former Police Director Shemsi Prençi has stated that the creation of the gendarmerie in Albania is necessary.
Prençi said that police structures should be depoliticized and not misused by politics.
" It is necessary to create the gendarmerie, because the tasks of public order and security and territorial control and the fight against crime must be separated once and for all. Today, being a very small state, unfortunately, also a society incriminated. Politics has been severely criminalized. Today, the State Police is misused by the central and local government due to the model of governance with arbitrary, arrogant orders. The Director of Police feels powerless. The gendarmerie must be called on the scene. So that a mayor or municipality does not diminish the work of a police director.
In a drug trafficking case, a mayor and a deputy should not be able to make a phone call. Politics is partisan, but it has never achieved depoliticization. Whoever has been in power has misused the police. I have not implemented the orders of two Interior Ministers. Today, police officers go and support a verbal order from the prime minister or minister for the demolition of unauthorized constructions, or for scooters and skateboards ," Prençi said.
