Political analyst Frrok Çupi has described former Prime Minister Fatos Nano as one of the most important personalities of the Albanian political transition.

He described the former prime minister as a man who forgave, even his political opponents, recalling his own suffering under the violent Berisha regime.
Çupi said, " Nano suffered a lot. He was like that 'Christ' who was imprisoned in a terrible way. It was said that he had been sentenced to 12 years, but in politics there was talk that 'the key to the prison had been thrown into the Vjosa River '."
The journalist emphasized that Nano's imprisonment was not simply a political act, but a sacrifice that, according to him, helped curb the escalation of violence in 1997.
" Fatos Nano was imprisoned politically, but he was imprisoned for Albanian citizens. I say this because if he had not been imprisoned, the violent regime at that time would have hastened 1997. "
He recalled that Nano took the leadership of the Socialist Party at a critical moment, when it came from a communist heritage, and thanks to his vision, it was transformed into a modern and indispensable force for Albanian society.
" I have followed politics and of course the journey of Fatos Nano. He had many difficulties because he took over the SP at a time when it itself came from the Communist Party, a dogmatic, unchanging, wooden party, and without Fatos Nano it would be useless for Albanian society. Without Fatos Nano, the SP would be useless for Albanian society. He reformed it with an open mind and wisdom, " said Çupi.
Another key moment in Nano's career, according to the analyst, was the period when he was elected prime minister, in a devastated and burned Albania. Çupi described him as a leader who faced the tragedy with clarity and high responsibility, building the foundations of a free market economy and a developed society.
" Nano had a rare quality: he went through every crisis with calmness and a smile, maintaining his clarity and dedication to the country ," he added.
Sharing moments from personal contacts with Nano, Çupi said that he had stood by him for years and had seen firsthand the extraordinary energy he had to build a better Albania.
" He loved the people and the homeland with all his heart. He was the founder of the new era, the one who took the first step towards the European Union, through the Stabilization and Association Pact ," - emphasized Çupi in Rtsh.
