The lawyer of the families of the victims of Gërdec, Dorjan Matlija, has commented on the list of witnesses that the prosecution is looking for in the process, including Shkëlzen Berisha, the son of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
"As for Mr. Berisha has some evidence in the file, such as a fax sent by the Ministry of Justice, headed by Mr. Aldo Bumçi with a handwritten note. Whether it's the fact that there are several phone calls exchanged during the time of the demolition and several others on the day of the explosion, they create the idea that this person may be related. He may not say anything of value to the trial, but the Prosecution has the duty to call him and question him. The other person who signed that fax by hand is expected to testify what that fax was, what was the purpose and role of each of them in the process," he said.
Regarding the list of witnesses, Matlija said that they agree with the Prosecution's list of persons who should testify, adding to that list 12 more names that, according to them, should be on it.
"Berisha, Bumçi, etc. are on the list of the prosecution, we agree with that list and we have added 12 other names that are not on that list. Among them directors of MEICO and other military personnel, among them also people from the company AEY. We thought that it is also necessary to call the head of the municipality of the time. After there is a written correspondence between him and the Ministry of Defense, for Gërdec's department to return him to the field, but then it happened that Gërdec moved from a sports field to a plan to dismantle weapons. One of the witnesses was Luan Hoxha, the chief of the general staff, he can testify about the circumstances of the trial. The prosecution itself is looking for this person. The key witnesses can be 10 people", said Matlija for "Tirana Live".
