The appeal rejected for the umpteenth time Ilir Meta's request to be released from prison. The court did not change the security measure of detention in prison, while a year after the arrest of former president Meta, his file has been sent by SPAK to the court, where the trial has not yet begun.
Renowned lawyer Romeo Kara, invited to "Ora e Fundit", said that the fact that the Court has not agreed to ease the security measure means that none of the conditions for which it was granted have changed.
He emphasized that the offenses for which Ilir Meta is accused are serious and if found guilty, the former president risks up to 12 years in prison.
"None of the conditions for which this measure was given have changed. He could leave the country, he could damage the process and all the elements, and he could commit another criminal offense. The court saw fit not to change the measure."
We are dealing with a very complex process, there are three or four serious criminal offenses, but they require in-depth investigations, corruption, money laundering, undeclared assets, committed in collaboration.
"The person who committed the crime symbolizes absolute power in this post-communist period. The minimum will be 12 years in prison. The crimes are serious in their nature. I think he will receive punishment," said lawyer Kara.
