The opening of the gates of the Banja Hydropower Plant has flooded a significant area of agricultural land, greenhouses and olive groves in the villages of Linas and Selitë, in the Municipality of Cërrik.
One of the most affected farmers is Daniel Tafa from the village of Linas, Mollas Administrative Unit. These are the consequences of the flood, as a result of the opening of the gates of the hydroelectric power plant and the overflow of the Devoll River, which runs through the area.
The farmer says that within two months he has been flooded twice. About 3 hectares of agricultural land are under water, while the greatest damage has been caused to greenhouses.
The farmer from Cerrik has not yet assessed the economic damage, which, according to him, is incalculable. He calls on the Albanian state to intervene in the farmers' case, as they are on the verge of bankruptcy.
If he is not helped, he says he will definitely leave Albania. The farmer returned from emigration 7 years ago with the hope of building a future for his family in his homeland, but today he faces uncertainty about whether the Albanian state will stand by him.
"All of this you see is due to the mismanagement of the dam. I call on the state to take action against the farmers because in this situation we are in, we can no longer lift our heads. It is up to us to leave and go to Europe. We have everything here. If the state helps us, that's fine, if not, we are all for leaving ," farmer Daniel Tafa told "Vizion Plus".
The Director of Agriculture and Forestry in the Municipality of Cërrik, Çerçiz Shabani, informs us about the real damage in the two administrative units and the cause of the floods. He informs that a working group has already been established to identify all the damage caused, which will be forwarded to the Ministry of Agriculture.
It is learned that in the first two days of opening the gates of the Banja Hydropower Plant, discharges were 290 m³/sec, while together with the production of electricity they reached 390 m³/sec.
