Journalist Lorenc Vangjeli has commented on the recent consensus between the Socialist Party and the Democratic Party on the integration resolution and changes to the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly, calling it a tactical and hypocritical move.
Invited to the show "Now with Erla Mëhillin" on Euronews Albania, Vangjeli said that clashes between parties are often artificial and constructed for the public.
According to Vangjeli, both political parties knew in advance the course of developments and the opposition chose to become part of the success that the government would promote after the IBAR report.
" This should be the rule. This is how it should be as a rule and not seen as an exception. One of the reasons is that both sides knew what would happen. So, IBAR would be taken and this fact, at least by the government, would be trumpeted and cheered as a success, while the opposition rushed to become part of this success. It is a tactical move, because the permanent strategy of the opposition is to always be reactive. That means it does not act, but simply reacts to what happens during the day. To put it simply, what one side says is white and shines like gold, the other side says is tar and black as hell. This is what the socialists did yesterday in opposition, this is what the democrats do today ," Vangjeli said.
The journalist said that the ongoing political tension in the Assembly is exaggerated and often does not reflect the real relationship between MPs off-camera.
" The report itself highlighted the tense situation, often unnecessary, and it is an extraordinary tension. Here it seems as if they are being slaughtered. If you ask them what happened a week ago, they forget. Even the scenes of violence that occur, even the big clashes, even these short peaces that look like an exchange of brawls drinking a glass of raki with each other, are simply hypocritical. They are in Parliament on the hottest day, with cameras on, they look like two armies of Janissaries facing each other, pointing their weapons. And behind the Speaker of the Parliament's back is the bar, the Parliament's café. If you look at them there, they are together again, talking, as if nothing had happened ," he declared.
Vangjeli added that political clashes have turned into an institutionalized "theater" to serve political leaders rather than real debate.
" Theatrical in front of the camera has been institutionalized to narrate the usefulness of each one in front of the next leader. The doctor loves cheerleaders, he loves them with a torch in his hand and mouth, Rama loves a scolding to answer them. And where they are real, next to a glass of water and a cup of coffee, there is peace. So, here is the proof that everything is not only artificial, but also hypocritical. Not everything is written in the regulations. There are also moral codes that are not written anywhere ," said Vangjeli.
