The polar cold hits Albania, what awaits us in the coming days

Our country is affected by low temperatures, as a result of a polar mass that has gripped the entire Balkan peninsula.

In the mountainous areas, temperatures have dropped several degrees below zero.

" Today, the lowest temperature is -5 in Dibër and -4 in the Korca district ".

The snowfall will continue on Wednesday in the southeastern areas, but the biggest problem will be frost on the roads.

" It is predicted that there will be only isolated snow showers in the southeast, which will not bring road closures. The frosts on the road axes will be problematic, from today until the beginning of next week, some mountainous areas will be below zero, causing the frosts to be present .

According to Meteoalb, Wednesday is expected to be the coldest day, but on Thursday and Friday the temperature will rise.

While on the weekend, the thermometer sets a record again, dropping to -9 degrees in the deep mountainous areas.

" The cold is expected to remain present until the weekend, even though on Thursday and Friday we have a gradual withdrawal, it will be the weekend again that will bring temperatures down to -7 degrees in the mountainous areas, those of Rubana, not Erseka is also excluded with -7 degrees. Meanwhile, the deep mountainous areas will also record values of -8 or -9 degrees .

According to forecasters, this cold weather situation is transitory, as January is predicted to be warmer, with temperatures not typical of the month.

" After the 15th, we will have an increase in temperatures again. Rainfall will be sporadic, but not significant. So it will be warm and with typical January rain. We do not expect to have heavy snow like in 2021 or extreme values like in January 2017 where the thermometer dropped to -18" , says the meteorologist.
