The leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has requested from his cell to be summoned to SPAK to testify about the 4 murders that occurred during the protest of January 21, 2011.
At that time, Meta was deputy prime minister, while Sali Berisha was the country's prime minister.
In the official letter sent by Meta to SPAK, he requests to be questioned as a person in the know as he has information that is not known by the investigative group.
“Dear Mr. Prosecutor!
The Prosecution Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime has registered criminal proceedings and is conducting investigations regarding the event of January 21, 2011.
"I, Ilir Rexhep Metaj, being aware of and able to provide valid evidence about the circumstances of that event, evidence that is not known to the proceeding body, which may serve to shed light on the event. I am at the disposal of the proceeding body at any moment that it is ready!", the request states.
The January 21 protest occurred after the publication of a scandalous video between Ilir Meta and Dritan Prifti. The 12-minute video showed a bargain between Deputy Prime Minister Ilir Meta and Dritan Prifti, a minister at the time, for 700,000 euros in exchange for concessions and licenses for a hydroelectric power plant.
