Today, the second floor of the Rinas airport was inaugurated. Prime Minister Edi Rama was also present, who said that Tirana Airport has taken the first place among the airports in Europe that has exceeded 100% recovery after the pandemic, recording over 5.2 million passengers during the past year.
" I am convinced that the need for other spaces will soon arise, plus the solution to the chronic parking problem is in the works. According to European aviation data, Tirana Airport is the only one in Europe that has exceeded 100% recovery after the pandemic. Last year's figure was 123% plus after the pandemic. The second one was that of Istanbul and then the others came. 5.2 million passengers have been processed at this airport. The ambition of the company is to touch the figure of 7 million. The 2027 target was achieved years ago. I am convinced that the target for 10 million tourists will be for a very short time ", said the Prime Minister.
Mentioning the concession granted many years ago for Tirana's airport, which turned it into the most expensive airport in Europe, Rama emphasized that the situation is now completely different and that the country has been freed from the concession that placed the state under difficult conditions.
" Tirana Airport is a successful company. After years under the hoof of a terrible concession made for the conditions in which he put the state and the passengers. Because of that concession, we were the most expensive airport in Europe. Today this situation has been completely reversed, but not only because we freed the airport from the clutches of that concession, but because the Albanian company that was prejudiced today, the facts show that we are in the conditions of a completely different story", he underlined .
