Mayor Erion Veliaj's lawyers have made an official request to the Special Prosecution Office to exclude or replace prosecutor Ols Dado from the investigation of the mayor of Tirana.
Lawyer Ermir Beta told the media that as a defense they have formalized the request for Ols Dada's exclusion or replacement, due to a conflict of interest.
" Veliaj has also shown the conflict of interest himself. This request was verbal and the cause was the conflict of interest for a construction permit. In the absence of an immediate response, we as a defense have formalized the request to exclude Ols Dado or his replacement. We have also added parts where we see Ols Dado as biased ," he said.
Meanwhile, Maks Haxhia, the mayor's other lawyer, stated that according to procedures, Dado himself should resign due to the conflict of interest.
" Veliaj rightly says that he has a conflict of interest with prosecutor Olsi Dadon. According to the procedures in these cases, he should resign from the case. There was no reason for the case to escalate into a conflict. We have notified the relevant authorities to replace him ," said Haxhia, emphasizing that they are still awaiting a response to their request.
According to lawyer Haxhia, based on the procedural code, any prosecutor or judge who is found to have a conflict of interest is obliged to resign.
