The Kakavija border crossing was engulfed in chaos this Wednesday, after the Entry-Exit System (EES) on the Greek side went out of service.
According to preliminary information, Greek authorities have temporarily suspended work due to the collapse of the new entry-exit system in the Schengen area or EU. As a result, movement at the border has slowed down significantly.
Long lines of vehicles and citizens have formed on the Greek side, and the wait is getting longer.
Some travelers report being stuck in line for about two hours.
"We've been waiting for two hours, the system has crashed," a citizen told "TCH" describing the situation on the ground.
There is still no official announcement on when the system is expected to be restored and movement normalized at this border point.
