The meeting of the Investigative Commission for Sterilization Concessions and Health Check-Up has been accompanied by strong debates between the two political camps.
Doctor Genc Byrazeri was today as a witness in the Parliamentary Investigative Committee on Sterilization and Check-up, to talk about the time when he was a member of the Check-up committee.
During today's meeting of the Investigative Commission for Concessions in Health, Sterilization and Check-Up, the democratic chairman Albana Vokshi asked the witness, epidemiologist Genc Byrazeri, reminding him of the conflict of interest with the former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj, as his cousin.
"Did you have a conflict of interest in the task you performed after you were appointed as an external expert for the Concession Commission, given that you are also the cousin of the former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj?", Vokshi addressed him.
But Byrazeri responded by denying the conflict of interest in this case.
"Thank you Madam President, I was expecting this question in this meeting. But I remind you that my work in this position as an external expert dates back very early, I said that at the time when deputy Petrit Vasili was minister. Since 2011 and until 2019. As I said, my work was only about drafting and studying the Feasibility and not making decisions, as an external expert and then I left. It has not affected my friendship at all. When I exercised this duty, Mr. Beqaj was not known at all", said the doctor.
He also compared the study conducted by comparing the official figures of the hospitals themselves. Byrazeri emphasized that infections or contamination and pollution in hospitals went up to 65% and in many cases ended in fatalities.
"There was also a 45% contamination rate, these are official figures, I collected them from hospitals. There was a high number of deaths as a result of contamination in hospitals. After the concession, the accumulated figures are officially showing that they have decreased up to 45%. They are figures from 2015 and later. Contaminations are at 5 or 6.5%, with a significant reduction," he said.
In the end he emphasized that "the situation has been alarming".
