Regarding today's decision of the CEC to remove the mandate of Fredi Beleri as the elected mayor of Himara, the Foreign Ministry of Greece has also reacted.
In an official press release, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its concern about this decision, which does not allow Beleri to be the mayor of Himara, while on the other hand it requests that Beleri be allowed to be part of the first plenary session in European Parliament.
" Today's decision of the Central Election Commission of Albania to disqualify Fredi Beleri without even taking the oath of the mayor of Himara is a new practice and the anticipated conclusion of a process with many question marks regarding the basic principles of the rule of law.
Greece had long expressed its strong concern about the removal of the presumption of innocence, the integrity of the trial process, the prohibition of swearing and the disproportionate punishment imposed, as well as the fact that the Municipality of Himara has been governed by unauthorized persons for a year.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterates the obligation of the Albanian authorities to take all necessary measures to immediately enable Mr. Beleri, already an elected member of the European Parliament, to participate in his work, starting from the first plenary session on July 16 in Strasbourg. "- said in response.
