Snowfall has been recorded in the mountainous areas of the Kukës region, unexpectedly bringing back the winter atmosphere in the middle of spring. The villages of Shishtavec, Turaj and Novosej have been whitened by snow, while temperatures have suffered a significant drop in recent hours.
Images from the ground show that in some areas the snow thickness has reached several centimeters, creating an unusual situation for this time of year.
According to preliminary data from local authorities, no problems have been reported in road traffic so far. The main roads remain open and passable, while the responsible structures are on standby for any possible intervention in case of worsening weather conditions.
However, snowfall at this stage of spring raises concerns for the agricultural sector. Currently, fruit trees are in the flowering phase, making them vulnerable to low temperatures and possible frosts.
Agricultural experts warn that if temperatures continue to drop, it could have a negative impact on this season's production. On the other hand, farmers have started planting agricultural crops, including potatoes, for which no significant damage has been reported so far. However, the situation remains under observation, as weather conditions may affect the further development of the plants.
