The intense rainfall on January 7, 2026 has put several cities in the country on alert, including Durrës, Fier and Shkodra, where localized flooding has been recorded. The danger is now shifting to Tirana, where the Lana River is very close to overflowing.
The most problematic situation is in the area of the Palace of Arrows, where the Lana has risen to the level of the flowerbed and is expected to overflow the streets in the coming hours, if the rainfall continues at the same intensity. This area is among the most exposed to flooding whenever there is heavy rainfall, and historically there have been Lana overflowing its bed.
Fortunately, there are no reports of heavy traffic or roadblocks in the capital city so far. However, local authorities are on alert, while the Civil Emergencies Inspectorate is closely monitoring the situation.
After Durrës, where several roads were flooded yesterday afternoon, and after alerts in the south for rising river levels such as the Vjosa, it is expected that Tirana will not escape the consequences of bad weather, if the rainfall continues in this form during the night and in the following days.
