Italian journalist Nello Trocchia, author of a book on organized crime, has spoken about the Albanian mafia.
Trocchia said that the Albanian mafia is very similar to the 'Ndrangheta as it is more family-based.
He explains that it has several cells that, when necessary and when confronted with opponents, merge into a single one and then quickly disappear.
" The Albanian mafia has specific characteristics, unlike the Italian mafia. It does not have a pyramidal structure. It has family roots like the 'Ndrangheta. I say this in my book, after talks with investigators. An organization has several similar cells. There is no Albanian dominance.
"Some investigators who have delved into this topic have referred to me that they resemble terrorist cells. They have soldiers and collaborators in the territory. When these cells have problems with other groups, they merge and disperse. It is an essential characteristic, as it makes it difficult to distinguish. The Albanian mafia is linked to the territory and an international development ," the Italian journalist told A2 CNN.
