This Tuesday, the next court session took place in the "Gërdec" case, where the defendant is former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu.
At the end of the hearing, Mediu made a statement to the media, where he opposed the continuation of the process under the current conditions. He stated that, according to him, the prosecution has not presented concrete evidence implicating him in abuse of office.
"What the prosecution claims as evidence has nothing to do with the minister. There is no constitutional legal act that the minister could have abused his office. A process cannot continue with allusions to what happened," Mediu said, among other things.
The former minister also raised concerns about the composition of the trial panel, emphasizing that, in his opinion, the preliminary phase judge should not be the same one who examines the case on the merits.
The "Gërdec" trial, related to the tragic 2008 explosion, continues to be one of the most sensitive issues in the justice system, as the parties remain in opposing positions regarding evidence and responsibility.
