AKU checks markets, but there is no trace of fillets...
The chicken meat containing salmonella is suspected to have been completely consumed. About 8 tons of fillets ended up on the market, but after subsequent checks, no trace of them was found.
Since March 21, when ISUV confirmed the presence of the bacteria in a shipment of 7.8 tons of chicken fillet, the National Food Authority has launched inspections at commercial units with the aim of blocking the product.
The AKU told the media that inspection groups were deployed to the 10 counties where the meat was sold, and that notices with photos of the product were placed in all commercial units to inform consumers that if they have purchased this meat, they should not consume it. But so far, no findings have been made and the suspicion is that the meat was consumed.
The quantity of 7.8 tons of chicken meat imported from Brazil arrived at the Port of Durrës on March 11, and after analyses conducted at the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute on March 21, the presence of dangerous bacteria in the frozen chicken meat was confirmed. According to the AKU, the problem was further deepened by the fact that the importing company 'AMG Food' submitted fictitious invoices, preventing the accurate tracking of the contaminated product on the market. Therefore, it has been reported to the prosecutor's office. It has also been requested that the company's license be revoked.
This was announced by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dritan Palnikaj, invited to a show. " The role of the AKU is to supervise the procedure and to guarantee food safety. In this specific case, the role of the AKU has been proactive. This means that it has undertaken a series of consecutive steps, from taking samples, to continuing with controls and inspections, traceability in 12 districts. There has been interaction with the Tax Investigation and the State Police. It has initiated an audit of the employees and has referred the entity that had this product. The AKU has made the referral to the prosecutor's office and has imposed a freeze on part of the quantity found. The company is private, but its obligations to fulfill towards the public are public, therefore it is in the Prosecutor's Office. The obligations to implement the law are with the institutions and we have referred the violations to the Prosecutor's Office. Even in this specific case, the suspension of the license has been requested from the AKU ," said Palnikaj.
In this case, Tirana Police announced that Arben Goxhan, the owner of the AMG Food company, was wanted, who on March 11 imported almost 8 tons of chicken meat contaminated with salmonella from Brazil, which ended up on the market, endangering the health of citizens and which has not yet been fully withdrawn. In the investigation, the police said that they placed his brother, Mondi Goxha, owner of the “Dimal” company, which receives raw chicken meat from AMG to produce various products, at large.
