Prosecutor General Olsian Çela, in the Law Commission, while reporting on the work of 2023, also spoke about political interference in the work of prosecutors.
Çela said that prosecutors today are more protected than ever from political interference. He emphasized that prosecutors today have all the necessary guarantees to perform their duties without being influenced by politics.
" As the criminal justice system is conceived today, the KLP is the body that guarantees the independence of prosecutors through a series of functions that it performs and with a series of acts related to the ethics of the prosecutor and practices where the distance of prosecutors is maintained for political interference.
As for what the prosecutors can do, in all cases that have had political sensitivity or have been discussed at the media level, we have been as transparent as possible. Data can be statistical or explanatory
They should take into consideration, it is the prosecutor who decides on the level of information that can be made known to the public. Statistical data is available and in any case we have processed it to give it to the public. I think that prosecutors have not been more protected than they are today, within the framework of the law in force, as far as foreign interference is concerned. Prosecutors have all the guarantees to perform their duties and there is no need for them to do so ," said Çela
