Former Prosecutor Eugen Beci has spoken about the possibility of Erion Veliaj and Ilir Meta's release from prison. Beci explained that the unifying decision of the Supreme Court does not automatically mean their release from prison, but it could affect if a new request for a change in the security measure is submitted.
According to him, the changes are mainly related to the requirement for concrete evidence and stronger reasoning from the courts when imposing the measure of "prison arrest".
"The possibility for them to get out of prison lies in this way. If the unifying decision of the Supreme Court is specific regarding the method of determining the security measure 'arrest with prison' with strict criteria, they will not automatically be released from prison. If they make a request for a change in security measure, the court will evaluate the new request in the spirit of the unifying decision of the Supreme Court.
The changes are as follows: You must have concrete evidence to show the imposition of a 'prison arrest' measure when the evidence of the investigation is destroyed, and secondly, the investigation must be justified and cannot be a template. Another change is that we have a very strong practice of the European Court of Human Rights. We have three cases in Albania, where Albanian courts are being called upon. If the Supreme Court had such a positive approach, the minimum recourses it expected from decisions to impose security measures should be destroyed and not say 'no recourse', because here the hypocrisy of the Supreme Court is visible , "said Beci on the show 'Now'.
