When the Justice Reform was announced, citizens were told that for the first time, a “moral cleansing” of the judicial elite would take place. Hope was raised in society that a new generation of judges and prosecutors would finally emerge, selected based on integrity and transparency.
But now that the Vetting process has ended, questions continue to arise about how fair that process was.
Olsi Komici, a member of the KPK, is today a deputy of the Socialist Party. He was catapulted by the Independent Qualification Commission to the Parliament hall. So a kind of reward.
Holta Zaçaj, former member of the Constitutional Court, was appointed by the Socialist Party as a member of the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania.
Meanwhile, another name has come to light: Genta Tafa Bungo, former member of the KPK. She is the Socialist Party's proposal for Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination. This proposal comes after her failure to become a member of the Constitutional Court.
Former KLP leader Alfred Balla and Rozeta Ivanova from the Independent Qualification Commission also applied to the Assembly. But the SP supported Genta Bungo.
In the letter sent to the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peles, the Socialist Party writes: " We assess that the proposed candidacy, with her professional experience in the field of law as well as her outstanding skills in the exercise of the profession, enjoys the trust of all deputies and meets all the criteria required by law ."
On the surface, she appears as a career legal professional, a former bailiff and lecturer, voted by the Assembly to be part of the most important filter of the transition. But behind the scenes, a series of data, documents and media reports cast strong shadows of doubt over her wealth and integrity.
On the other hand, it is being proven that some of the names that have been part of the justice system are being rewarded with positions in politics. This shows that the reform has not been that clean. / Pamphlet
