Sentence completed, GJKKO releases former Vlora chief prosecutor, Aurel Zarka,

The Special Appeal has decided to release from prison the former chief prosecutor of Vlora, Aurel Zarka, who had been in prison since June 2024.

The decision was given by Judge Florjan Kalaja, after hearing the arguments of the defense attorney and the prosecutor in the case, who requested Zarka's release.

His release comes after the former head of the Vlora Prosecution Office has completed serving his sentence.

Aurel Zarka was sentenced to 4 years in prison for the criminal offenses of “corruption” and “unlawful influence” in the file known as “Toyota Yaris”. Due to the summary trial, his sentence was reduced to 2 years and 8 months in prison.

The investigations into the "Toyota Yaris" case began after the seizure of 3.4 million euros in cash at the port of Durres in June 2018. The money was hidden in two used vehicles imported from Belgium.
