A shoulder-to-shoulder clash, then a verbal argument that ends with a fight in a bar, which ended in tragedy.
Hekuran Cumani, a 23-year-old of Albanian origin, died from a single stab wound to the chest in the parking lot of the University of Perugia. The suspected perpetrator of the crime is a peer, for whom a search has begun.
He is described as a young man with curly hair and olive skin.
The Flying Squad and forensic experts are working primarily to analyze footage from security cameras placed both in front of "110 Caffè" and in front of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, just a few meters from the scene of the murder.
On Friday evening, Hekurani and his friends, about 10 people in total, traveled in two cars from Fabriano in the Marche region, towards the capital of Umbria.
The boys are visiting bars and clubs around the university town, which is the center of Perugia's nightlife. It's 4 a.m. when the group from Fabriano bump into other young people in a bar. They are all foreigners, some are students, others are children of second-generation immigrants.
Investigators emphasize that the debate was based on trivial issues. It has nothing to do with the world of drugs, or university debate.
Hekurani, a muscular and trained young man, is asked to take to the streets. A knife blade appears between him and his opponent.
The 23-year-old is hit between the chest and neck only once. His brother tries to stop the attacker, but is injured in the leg. Then everything descends into chaos.
It's 4:30 in the morning when 112 receives a call about a fight in the parking lot between Via Alessandro Pascoli and Via Luigi Vanvitelli.
When the first patrol car arrives, the 23-year-old is lying on the ground and not moving.
Footprints left on the asphalt reveal that Hekurani crawled for several meters before falling to the ground.
An unusual and uncontrolled episode of violence, the prosecutor's office emphasizes. The initial examination of the young man's body reveals a single wound, a fatal wound, which would have affected vital organs. All efforts by the emergency medical team to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
"Hekurani was a good guy. He loved animals, fitness and tattoos," said friends of the victim.
He had a heart of gold, always helping friends in need. In the summer, he worked in a family restaurant, and in the winter, he did various odd jobs.
"A tragedy that has shocked the university city. A heartbreaking and unbearable event," commented the President of the Umbria Region, Stefania Proietti, together with the Councilor for Youth Policies, Fabio Barcaiol.
This murder occurred just a few days after that of Paolo Taormina, the 21-year-old murdered in Palermo outside his family's bar. In that case, there was no "punitive" revenge, but rather, everything arose for banal reasons.
"It made me look bad in the eyes of others," admitted the killer who shot him.
