The University Hospital of Tirana has reacted to the news that one of the accelerators at the Oncology Hospital had broken down. The University Hospital of Tirana has admitted that one of the linear accelerators has been broken since Friday afternoon, while stating that it will be restored to function by Monday.
The QSUT has attempted to justify it by saying that the brachytherapy device had a temporary outage due to an automatic system signal that required routine maintenance.
The response also states that "after verifications and calibrations by medical physicists, in accordance with international safety standards, treatments resumed normally on June 23, 2025."
The "Mother Teresa" University Hospital Center has described the news as disinformation and inaccurate, while accusing it of being intended to create panic among patients.

We clarify public opinion regarding some false and disinformation news published on social networks and some media, related to the functioning of the Radiotherapy Unit at the QSUT.
The brachytherapy device had a temporary outage due to an automatic system signal requiring routine maintenance. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the manufacturing company were immediately notified and, with the support of the Biomedical Equipment Directorate, all necessary checks were carried out. After verifications and calibrations by medical physicists, in accordance with international safety standards, treatments resumed normally on 23 June 2025.
Regarding linear accelerators, QSUT has two functional devices at its disposal. One of these devices was temporarily stopped after a technical defect appeared on Friday afternoon, 27.06.2025. The clinic's engineers intervened immediately and the device will be back in operation by Monday.
Unfortunately, during these days, incorrect information has been spread, outside of any professional context, creating panic among patients and unfair pressure on medical and technical staff, who have been continuously engaged to guarantee safety and quality in service.
Radiotherapy is a field regulated by strict international standards and every action of healthcare staff is coordinated with the competent authorities and nuclear safety protocols.
"We invite all media to show caution and responsibility in dealing with such sensitive topics for patients and their families, relying only on official and verified sources ," the QSUT response states.
