After more than 48 hours of blockage, the Qafë Thana border crossing was reopened this afternoon. Authorities have managed to remove the gas-filled truck that had overturned on the road and had completely blocked vehicle traffic.
The accident occurred on December 30th and efforts to move the heavy vehicle lasted for two days, due to the risk of leaks and safety measures. Only this afternoon was it possible to completely clear the road and normalize traffic in this strategic segment.
While the Qafë Thana customs point was out of operation, vehicle traffic to and from North Macedonia was diverted to two other border points: Tushemisht and Gorica. Border police and customs services temporarily organized traffic to avoid delays and congestion at these alternative points.
