"Shopping center without fire protection system", the head of the fire

The head of the Firefighters' Union, Bledar Bajrami, says that the shopping center in Lushnje, which was engulfed in flames on Monday, did not have an anti-fire system.

In an interview for "Ora e Fundit" on ABC News, Bajrami said that at the time when the fire brigade intervened, the temperatures were very high, which made their work difficult.

According to him, the firefighters of Lushnje had deficiencies in their equipment, as he added that the panic among the residents was very great.

"The first moments that the first groups went, the fire service is on permanent alert, they encountered difficulties on the road, there is smoke, there is fire, there is panic. Problems, since the cars, the fire engines were not allowed to approach the building, the cars were parked everywhere. They got inside, they did the first maneuvers. The intervention was done in a few minutes, the panic was very great among the people, a group approached the fire, used the water they had and waited for help. The fire is a 10-minute job, 10 minutes passed, the fire is getting bigger. The reasons are different, many, but I would say there was a group, the group of Tirana firefighters, was inside the building, it was fine, but from the other side, maybe they underestimated it for a moment, only when they saw that the fire broke out from the other side.

The factors are different. Very high temperature, you throw water on it and it evaporates immediately. It was a fight with life, for life. Since the high temperatures in that kind of fire, 800 to 1000 degrees, melt concrete and iron, the human body can't stand that kind of temperature, they are very difficult as cases. Lushnja does not have those types of clothing for those high temperatures, even tools, there was a lack of equipment. Smoke also gets into apartments. At these moments, the temperature rises to 100-150 degrees.

Here are the main hearths that have been turned off. You have to put out the fire to get in, to get through. These pictures that have been taken, you can see here, but inside, with that smoke, you can't see anything. The causes are various, festive lights, chargers, television, faults occur, fuses, being a shoe store there were also cardboard boxes, the flames spread rapidly.

There, the system was not functional, expertise will reveal it. If there was a system, it wouldn't be this. Not even the palaces. Garages and buildings should have an anti-fire system. In the new ones I see a trend to put them on. I see that they are trying to place them. There are endless drawbacks. If they had had better equipment, the Lushnje fire brigade could have closed it itself", he emphasized.
