Tonight's guest on Pamfleti's podcast, Te Pashoq, was Shemsi Prençi, security expert and former head of the State Police, who rejected official analyses on crime, describing them as a game with statistics and not a reflection of reality.
Asked about his perception of the year 2025 and whether it can be considered a calmer year compared to the past, Prençi openly spoke out against the numerical analysis of murders. He said that even during his time in the State Police, he hated statistical analysis, as according to him it distorts the truth.
-What is your perception of 2025? Can we say that it was a comparatively quiet year? Because if we look at the numbers, 39 murders this year, but next year there could be a slightly higher number, it seems like we are devaluing human lives. So let's do the analysis in a general spirit.
Even when I was in the state police, I hated statistical analysis. As a person, and as a police chief. And I have criticized and continue to criticize statistical analysis, because often a murder that has two victims, the police consider it a murder. It often happens that the police, when one person is killed at a crime scene and two others are injured and these other two lose their lives in the hospital, do not call it a murder. They do not record murders. So this is the game with statistics. I do not like this. I like to say that in recent years, murders are no longer murders, they are assassinations. They are well-organized assassinations by a structured criminal group, either for settling scores or for conflicts of influence in the field of organized crime. And this is called the highest level of organized crime. When structured groups pay hitmen, with specific tasks, with missions that have defined reasons and motives for why someone will be killed, they will be killed on behalf of this or that criminal group, and defined tasks: who will be the killers, who will be the observer, who will be the transporter, who will be the person who will burn the car, and who will be the person who will burn the machine gun.
