"Albania is seen as transit", Karamuço reveals the control

Criminalistics expert Ervin Karamuço has considered the arrival of the first Africans in the Gjadri camp as a peaceful process, while the implementation of the agreement for immigrants between the Albanian and Italian governments has begun.

Karamuço said that the Albanian police, but also the Italian side, are prepared for any kind of scenario that may happen in the camp. Among other things, expert Karamuço added that immigrants will be verified if they have criminal records.

"A smooth process, according to the procedures. A process which is being monitored by both the State Police and the Italian side. The Albanian police has activated a special unit, which includes about 130 police officers, who have also been deployed in the Port of Shengjin, in the primary reception center and then in the Gjadri camp. These will be the external fencing and escorting of all motorcades that will come from the port towards Gjadri and vice versa. On the other hand, I see that there is an infrastructure so far compliant with all laws, whether Albanian or international conventions that respect human rights.

It will be a penitentiary center, especially that of Gjadri, but not with security elements like in our prisons, but they will be like open prisons. They will be isolated there until they undergo the procedures. This is a procedure that will continue with planning, up to 3000 people. It is somewhat manageable capacity. Even in Italy, illegal immigration has fallen. What is being noticed these days is the news that is circulating in the Arab world, Africa and even Asia, where it is becoming known that these immigrants are not going to Italy, but to Albania. It is one of the ways to prevent them from starting.

They see Albania as a transit, we will see a reduced flow to go to Italy, not to us. It is standard procedure. It not only looks at the health side, but also at identification, to see if there is a criminal or terrorist record. Once the entire file is filled, they can stay for days. Their stabilization in the Gjardi camp should be studied. The study of other procedures takes time because it is examined by the Italian state, not by the Albanian state.

They are the safe countries, there are 56 countries that the UN calls safe countries, where you cannot get asylum. If they come from Bangladesh, we don't know any conflict, from India too. It is impossible for them to get asylum. This is a challenge that they have with themselves. Italians are prepared for any kind of scenario. Likewise, we also have our police units, they are also prepared ", said Karamuço for "Abc News".
