A day after ending up in Trauma from the riots at the opposition protest, activist Aulon Kalaja tells Top Channel that he was raped by 4 officers.
In an interview with journalist Dorjana Bezat, Kalaja says he was hit in the neck and had spray cans thrown at him. Kalaja says he will file two reports with the Prosecutor's Office, one for the false report made against him and another for what he calls torture during the protest.
-Mr. Kalaja, the Tirana Police have prosecuted you for assault in the line of duty, while during this protest you suffered injuries and ended up in the hospital. How do you see this whole situation?
Kalaja: I come from an activist background and have participated in many protests, but this is the first time in my life that I have been violated. It seemed very strange, unprofessional. I lost consciousness when I tried to pull a protester out of the police ranks. At that moment, I was kicked twice by two different police officers, I tried to hold on, I grabbed a policeman's suit, there I was hit in the neck by two other police officers in suits. Later, pepper spray and pepper were thrown at me from three directions, I don't know what substances they were, I asked for toxicological analysis. Later, I lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital. They said I had a concussion on the back of my head and neck and gave me a chokehold to wear for three weeks. Last night I didn't sleep at all, also because of the burns I have on my head and eyes, but I have more problems with my neck. These people beat you and don't let you cry. If they think I hit the police, it's not in my training, I have absolutely no problems with law enforcement. I will immediately go to the police and the prosecutor's office to report the person who reported me for a false report and the entire unconstitutional procedure and my right as a normal protester. In case they think they will stop me, I tell you: protest bam, here I am. These are fascist methods. I will be in the square against all injustices that I consider such.
-For you, was the police reaction disproportionate the day before?
Kalaja: It was unprofessional, disproportionate, it was a police organization that I had never seen before. Yesterday's goal was to disperse the protest. I was with Luçiano Boçi and Klevis Balliu, we were with journalists and there we were hit. The violence was unnecessary, I don't know what the police's justification will be. Something else impressed me when I came to my senses. I saw the Interior Minister's visit to some police officers who came to the hospital exhausted and the Interior Minister did not find time to visit me or ask me, I am also a citizen. He is the minister of Albanian citizens, he is not the SP minister. I was the injured person in the Trauma hospital.
-Who will the report you are going to make be addressed to?
Kalaja: First, about the person who reported me for hitting a police officer, and secondly, about torture. It's about torture, going out to protest and being tortured is illegal.
-Anything else to add?
Kalaja: I want to call on the State Police to maintain composure and be restrained. They wanted to set a red line. They shoot at people, while the protesters shoot at the plates. Protests will not stop with these fascist methods. If they think they can intimidate me, I will be in the square.
