The brother of the 29-year-old Kuksian who was found hanging from a street sign in Anderlecht, Belgium, says he may have committed suicide due to depression.
While foreign media have linked Bekim Halilaj's death to cocaine trafficking networks, even comparing it to a Mexican cartel-style execution, his brother, Redi Halilaj, speaking to Top News, refutes these leads.
" I ask the media not to publish false news. My brother suffered from depression, it has nothing to do with the other situations that the media writes about. No signs of violence were found on his body. We have nothing to do with any other situation ," he said.
Bekim Halilaj, believed to have travelled from his home village of Bicaj, Albania, to Belgium via England, was found dead on September 28 on the Brussels ring road in Anderlecht.
He was found hanging from a cable behind a traffic sign, the Belgian prosecutor's office considered the death suspicious and opened an investigation. The Belgian prosecutor's office has not ruled out the possibility of suicide either.
