Two bills of the American Congress, HR5274 and S.1909 , include our country in the list of countries where public policies are dictated by criminal and suspicious financing and where the government cannot guarantee its own security. Albania is not led by citizens and votes. Albania is led by the money of crime and the oligarchs who control tenders, ports, energy, coastal licenses and state technology. Every project worth millions of euros in this country passes through their bargain and Edi Rama is the guarantor of this scheme. Without them, he cannot stay in power for a single day.
The new US report is treating Albania as a state captured by criminal and corrupt capital that buys governance. Washington demands urgent verification of the assets of those who receive hundreds of millions of euros from the budget, while in their letters they declare ridiculous capitals. These companies do not account for the source of the money that they are building towers, energy parks and ports. This is a security risk for the country and for NATO, because it is not known who the real owner is and who is pulling the strings.
The investigation requested by the US also focuses on the plundering of military property by private individuals. Strategic areas and other defense bases have come under the control of businessmen linked to Edi Rama. The Ministry of Defense has signed agreements that replace national interest with private interest. Washington wants proof that this wealth is not ending up in the hands of capital that works against NATO security and for this reason has signed an in-depth audit of Albanian institutions.
SPAK has received a clear order from the US: not to deal with the petty soldiers of corruption. To deal with organized crime and the oligarchs who decide who gains power, who loses and who survives politically. There will be no more “unpunished scoundrels”. There will be no more “pardon for sponsors”. For the first time, the United States will also hit the businesses that finance the prime minister.
Rama has built a state where national security is in the hands of organized crime. The director of SHISH is an accessory to the underground tables. Construction, ports, energy, technology, all of these are sectors that were supposed to protect the state and the US will no longer tolerate this shame of an ally country.
The "middle man" who distributes tenders, hands over percentages and creates shell companies has entered the US radar as the most dangerous link in this system. American officials have decided to reveal who moves money behind the scenes and who gives financial oxygen to the government. The process does not only target politicians who sign, but any person who has commissioned favors, blackmailed or bought decision-making and controlled ministries through money and pressure.
Hitting them means breaking the chain that holds the state's capture in place. The same middlemen who until yesterday laughed at local justice are now packing their bags because they know that Washington does not negotiate with those who pay for politics with dirty money.
Washington's message is brutal. The oligarchs who support Rama will be put on sanctions lists. Their bank accounts will be blocked. Their financial citizenship will be banned. Their right to touch public money will be taken away. And Edi Rama will calculate for himself how much the government can protect him when his defenders are put into financial quarantine.
