A strong earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck today near the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).
The focal depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometers according to the GFZ.
A tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake, according to the US Tsunami Warning Center.
