$100 billion in accounts; who is the first richest woman in the world for 2023
Françoise Bettencourt Meyers

L'Oréal heiress Françoise Bettencourt Meyers is the first woman to own a fortune of 100 billion dollars, according to a list that ranks the richest people in the world.

The cosmetics empire founded by her grandfather is on track to become the most valuable stock in decades.

70-year-old Bettencourt Meyers' net worth reached $100 billion, making her the 12th richest person in the world. However, it still lags behind Bernard Arnault, its French counterpart who ranks second with $179 billion. Arnault is the founder of LVMH, the world's largest luxury brand group that includes Fendi and Louis Vuitton.

Bettencourt Meyers is the vice president of the company's board. She and her family are the single largest shareholders of L'Oréal owning around 35% of the shares. The 70-year-old took on the role of main heir after the death of her mother, Liliane Bettencourt, who passed away in 2017.

Tom Sancton, author of the book "The BettenCourt Affair" says that: "She lives inside her bubble. She lives within the framework of her family."

Bettencourt Meyers is said to prefer privacy to events attended by the world's richest people. She plays the piano several hours a day and has written two books, a 5-volume Bible study and a genealogy of the Greek gods.
