The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has told Sky News that there is no evidence that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons.
"We concluded that we cannot assert that there is a systematic effort in Iran to produce a nuclear weapon at this time," Grossi said.
He stressed that the IAEA report, which has been widely cited by Israel, shows that Iran is enriching uranium to 60%, the highest enrichment level in the world for a non-nuclear weapons state. “There are elements that cause concern,” he added, but clarified: “As for building and producing a nuclear weapon — no, we have not said such a thing.”
Asked about possible Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, Grossi expressed concern: "Of course we are concerned." He warned of the risk of a "radiological event" in the event of a nuclear facility being hit, which could lead to "the spread of nuclear material into the atmosphere."
