Montenegrin police have launched a large-scale operation against people who have supported the Russians in the war against Ukraine, joining as part of foreign formations in support of Vladimir Putin.

The operation, dubbed "Lugansk," aimed to prove the participation of individuals in foreign armed formations, in violation of the law and the rules of international law.

Danko Savić and Dejan Braletić, aged 61 and 54 respectively, were arrested in this operation.

Searches were also conducted at the homes of Jovan Buric, Gjorgji Vukmir, Borislav Jovovic, Zarko Jovanovic, Goran Kovacevic, Branko Grujicic, Mladen Ajkunic and Danka Vukcevic.

This was announced by the Police Directorate, stating that so far 12 people have been involved and that during the day and night yesterday, checks were carried out in 13 locations, 12 residential and auxiliary buildings and a law firm, in the area of ​​three cities: Danilovgrad, Niksic and Podgorica:

"During the checks, 24 firearms, over 1,000 cartridges, several frames, nine knives, swords and bayonets, as well as uniforms, flags and other distinctive signs of organizations and forming groups, as well as other items that can be seized according to the law, in connection with these and related criminal offenses," the Montenegrin Police announced.

The material evidence collected shows that certain persons, in violation of the law and the rules of international law, participated in a foreign armed formation of the Russian Federation, including in Lugansk, in the war that Russia is waging against Ukraine on Ukrainian territory, in the period from the beginning of 2023 to the beginning of 2025.

In only one case, based on participation in a foreign war and in connection with the commission of this criminal offense, they illegally acquired and possessed large sums of money, of which 1,500,000 euros (one million five hundred thousand euros) were in this person's current account.

They explain that during a search of the residential premises and other premises used by Savić, the police found and confiscated: an air rifle without the necessary documentation, several parts of a military uniform, body armor, helmets, Cossack Brotherhood uniforms, communication equipment, SIM cards, membership cards, a large number of invoices and payment slips, certificates of citizenship and passports of foreign countries, a booklet for participation in the front, proof of ownership of valuable real estate, as well as other objects and things.
