The US president said Iran has suffered heavy military losses and reiterated that Washington will not allow Tehran to obtain nuclear weapons.

US President Donald Trump declared that the United States is doing "tremendously well" in confronting Iran, claiming that Iranian forces have suffered major blows at sea and in the air.

According to Trump, Iran "doesn't have a navy anymore," and said that 58 ships had been destroyed in two days. He added that the US has "the greatest navy in the world" and that American operations are being carried out successfully.

Trump also reiterated his stance that Washington will not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons. "If they had them, they would use them," he said, without presenting any new public evidence for the claim.

In another statement, Trump said Iran's military and defense leadership had been hit hard. He mentioned the navy, air force, anti-aircraft systems, radars and Iranian leaders, saying "they are all gone."

“Now no one wants to be a leader there anymore,” he said. “We want to talk to them, but we have no one to talk to.”

Trump added that Iran had aimed to expand its influence in the Middle East and said the US should have stopped this earlier.

Meanwhile, the UK said Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper warned her Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi against any attack on British bases, according to the BBC. London said its defensive operations were a response to Iranian aggression against Gulf countries and demanded the immediate restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

This development comes amid high tensions in the Middle East and harsh exchanges of statements between Washington, Tehran and their allies.
