The Italian prosecution has launched criminal proceedings against renowned lawyer Daniela Paccoi, who is suspected of involvement as an intermediary in an international drug trafficking network, with suspected links to Albanian organizations.
The investigation is taking place in the city of Perugia, while the lawyer is currently being pursued at large. According to the investigative file, Paccoi is suspected of having played an important role in mediating communications between the leaders of a criminal organization and a client of hers, who was previously arrested with about 65 kilograms of cocaine.
According to the indictment, she served as a communication channel between Albania and the prison environment, transmitting messages and helping to keep the identities of collaborators secret. Investigators also allege that the lawyer was part of a staged scheme, which aimed to simulate cooperation with authorities through the false "discovery" of a quantity of drugs.
Two other people are also involved in this case: an Albanian citizen, suspected of being the courier and financial manager of the organization in Italy, and businessman Matteo Coresi. The latter, according to investigations, was arrested during an operation where 65 kilograms of cocaine were seized, hidden in a vehicle and in a business activity in the Foligno area.
The case has been followed by the Guardia di Finanza through wiretaps and surveillance, including inside the Capanne prison. According to the prosecution, the criminal network is suspected of having used secret communication methods and financial mechanisms to influence judicial processes, aiming to benefit from legal treatment.
Investigators also report that the transport of another quantity of drugs was organized, which was then hidden in a rural area near Casenove, with the aim of creating a false scenario of cooperation with the authorities.
Meanwhile, Matteo Coresi is expected to appear in court on May 7 in an expedited procedure, while investigations into the role of the lawyer and the suspected criminal network continue.
