An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander said Iran has “no faith” in negotiations with the US. As Pakistan prepares to host a second round of talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad, General Seyyed Majid Mousavi said any threat against Tehran would be met with a “strong and decisive” response.
"Wherever you are, we will respond strongly whenever we want ," he said, state broadcaster Press TV reported.
Mousavi's comments come at a time when a US delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, is expected to arrive in Islamabad, while Iran has sent mixed signals regarding its participation.
It was earlier reported that Iran is reconsidering its withdrawal from the proposed second round of talks, after a senior Iranian official told Reuters that the country was "positively considering its participation".
On the other hand, Pakistan has expressed confidence that Iran will participate in talks with the US, a senior government official told the Reuters news agency.
"We've gotten a positive signal from Iran. Things are fluid, but we're trying to have them here when we start the talks tomorrow or the day after that," the official said. Meanwhile, a two-week ceasefire between the US and Iran is set to expire on Wednesday.
