Gaza ceasefire talks: Hamas agrees to release 10 hostages

Hamas announced that it had agreed to release 10 hostages as part of talks to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Palestinian organization, the points still under negotiation are the entry of humanitarian aid, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave and "real guarantees" for a permanent ceasefire.

Hamas added that the talks are "difficult" due to "Israeli intransigence."

Military operations in the Gaza Strip "have created the right conditions to advance an agreement" aimed at releasing Hamas hostages, the Israeli army chief of staff said today.

"Our campaign will end when we win. We will protect our security and our future. We will not stop until we achieve all the objectives of this war, in the planned operational sequence. This is our duty, this is our oath, and this is how we will act," said Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir.

US President Donald Trump said today that there is "a very good chance" that a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip can be reached this week or next week, following his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on Tuesday.

"We have a chance this week or next week," Trump told reporters.

The meeting with Netanyahu was the second in as many days on the topic of the situation in the Middle East.
