The US Central Command has declared that it has begun the blockade of Iranian ports yesterday at 15:00. The Command has also informed that more than 10,000 American personnel, including sailors, marines and pilots, are involved in the operation, which did not allow any ships to pass in the first 24 hours.
A dozen warships and dozens of aircraft are also being used by the U.S. Six merchant ships obeyed instructions from U.S. forces to turn back to re-enter an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman.
"The blockade is being enforced impartially against vessels of all nations entering or exiting Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports in the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman," US Central Command said.
He added that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports are being supported by US forces.
Despite the Central Command statement, records show that several US-sanctioned ships have passed through the strait since the blockade was implemented.
