Elysee Palace,

Officers from the financial and anti-corruption brigade (BFAC) of the French judicial police have carried out checks at the Élysée Palace in Paris, as part of an investigation into public contracts linked to the Pantheon entrance ceremonies. The news was confirmed by sources close to the investigation to the French media outlet Le Figaro.

The investigation focuses on how the contracts for the organization of these ceremonies were awarded, which for more than 20 years have been entrusted continuously to the same events company, Shortcut Events. According to Le Canard enchaîné, this company organized the Pantheon ceremonies from 2002 to 2024, at a cost of around 2 million euros for each ceremony.

Sources close to the case say that investigators have seized several computers that were voluntarily handed over by the presidency's administration, in accordance with the investigating judge's requests. An informed source emphasizes that the Élysée Palace cooperates with judicial authorities whenever requested, while respecting Article 67 of the French Constitution, which guarantees the President's immunity during his term.

This article provides that the President of the Republic cannot be questioned or prosecuted for actions committed in the exercise of his/her duties, which requires a clear separation between institutional and personal actions within the framework of investigations.

Shortcut Events, founded in 1996 and with around 30 employees, has also been involved in organizing several important state events, including the inauguration of the Cité de la Francophonie in 2023 and the 80th anniversary ceremonies of the Normandy landings in 2024.

This is the first time in eight years that judicial police have conducted searches at the Élysée Palace. The last case dates back to July 2018, when investigators searched the office of former presidential aide Alexandre Benalla, as part of an investigation into violence against protesters in Paris.
